Amela was first cultivated in Japan in 1996, when breeder Masa Inayoshi managed to produce a tomato with a unique intensity and unrivalled sweetness. A new gourmet product was born that could meet the high demands of this country's sophisticated food culture. Eastern and Western cultures are now coming together to form a joint partnership: the Cooperativa La Palma in Granada, Spain, is sharing the secret of the Japanese method, meeting the strict quality requirements and making the delicacy accessible to the European market. After extensive cultivation on the Mediterranean Costa Tropical, nourished by the pure waters of the Sierra Nevada, Amela is now the star among its peers here too. Gourmet and professional chefs are justifiably excited about the little red, sometimes finely dotted balls, which are considered the most exquisite tomatoes in the world and are only available at specific times and at correspondingly high prices. You can taste the light and sun in them. You are immediately enveloped by the delicious aroma, as seductive as that of a sweet fruit. The exceptional sugar content, which can be recognised by the high Brix level, creates a wonderful contrast to the acidity and stimulates the taste buds. The high content of nutrients and amino acids in Amela also surpasses all other varieties. No spice can match what this tomato, with its firm skin and delicate pink flesh, naturally offers: the essence of exquisite flavour and a special character full of originality and authenticity. Meat, fish and buffalo mozzarella almost become minor players compared to this rich perfection, which also symbolises a return to the essentials.
