DeViehl: Elegance in perfection

Advanced technology and innovative design for the ultimate coffee experience

'The world’s most luxurious coffee cup' – what else could we call it? The London-based DeViehl Company’s creations made from exotic materials, such as Nine Dragon Marble and buffalo leather, are truly sophisticated ornaments.

An exciting new product will shortly be available in Switzerland. Selected specialist shops in Zürich, Basel, Lausanne and Montreux will be stocking DeViehl espresso cups. DeViehl is the brainchild of Brit Jonathan Strauss and German Andreas Bös, who have combined their passion for coffee with their grasp of precision engineering and eye for beauty to create the 'perfect cup'. Its shape is reminiscent of an antique vessel, fitting snugly into the palm. The use of a combination of high-quality materials gives it a classic look. In the Pacamara range, the body is made of hand-turned precious woods from sustainable plantations: the reddish elegance of Cocobolo from the Central American Pacific coast and the sophisticated veined Zebrawood from tropical West Africa. As many as five coats of clear piano lacquer give its surface high-quality sheen.

DeViehl’s cups look like works of art, but are in fact much more: they are the product of superb technical expertise and precision craftsmanship. Their ingenious design has good insulation properties to ensure that your coffee stays at the perfect drinking temperature for longer. Their internal contours optimise the flow of coffee for the perfect crema, allowing the aroma from the coffee to develop to its full breadth. The inside of the cups is made of the finest porcelain, coated with a silver lacquer. This reflects the latest developments in nanotechnology. In addition to cups in natural materials, there are also models made from futuristic carbon fibre. This appears in the Mundo Nova range, its black glaze gleaming to give look of total elegance. The latest developments can be seen in the cups of the Arusha range, where the acrylic body of the cup has been hand-painted by London jewellery designer Gail Klevan and decorated with gold and silver leaf. The cups are made from as many as 25 individual parts, produced by specialists in these crafts from all over Europe and assembled in DeViehl’s London studio. The cup bodies are turned in Germany, then lacquered there or sent to France to be encased in leather – meticulous attention to detail at every stage. Nothing is left to chance. Each cup sits on a stand of the same design and equal quality.  To complete this coffee ensemble, there is a spoon whose unconventional shape serves to emphasise the flowing contours of the cup. 'It turned out to be incredibly complicated to manufacture this spoon. A special stainless steel alloy was developed for it and then hand-polished,' says Jonathan Strauss, commenting on this important little detail. In DeViehl’s designs, art and skill, craftsmanship and exquisite taste all come together – and in a very convincing fashion. They inspire and delight with the promise of pure pleasure for all the senses. Further developments are planned at DeViehl for the beginning of 2015. In future, the cups in their ranges will also be available in nine different sizes. And coffee lovers are in for a surprise, as this innovative product will be available in yet more unconventional materials. The DeViehl creative partnership never runs out of ideas. The excitement just goes on!
