Mastering time through the art of slowing down. What sets the Pulse60 apart is its construction: abandoning conventional methods, it revolutionises the regulating mechanism, incorporating astounding patented innovations. The core is formed by an unusually large balance wheel, measuring 20 millimetres in diameter, reminiscent of those found in historic marine chronometers. It oscillates at the extremely low frequency of just 1 hertz: once every second – 60 times per minute, steady and familiar like a person’s resting heart rate. These characteristics lend the movement a high degree of balance – just like tightrope walkers who, thanks to a longer pole, can more easily stabilise their centre of gravity, absorb fluctuations and maintain their balance. Thanks to the ultra-amplitude, which extends beyond the full 360-degree radius here (and theoretically as far as 700 degrees), Renaud has achieved a masterpiece: maximum freedom in the movement of the oscillation. This prevents knocking, which can otherwise frequently lead to inaccuracies, and ensures a high degree of stability. This technical solution can be illustrated using the example of a car engine: While traditional movements with lower amplitude and frequencies between 2.5 and 5 hertz operate close to the red zone and are ultimately susceptible to knocking against the banking pins, Renaud’s movement runs at a low rotational speed – well within the comfort zone – with a controlled rhythm and unwavering precision. The Pulse60 is another example of the Swiss watchmaker once again demonstrating his expertise; in the past he developed timepieces for renowned luxury brands and is now doing so under his own label, HHDR Haute Horlogerie Dominique Renaud. Here, too, he works in close dialogue with others, listening, exchanging ideas and experimenting – he does not see himself as a genius, but as a master craftsman.
