The sun shines down on the paths lined with stone walls and lavender bushes, and which branch out in all directions of this prestigious estate; it was once part of the royal palace and later the monastery of La Cartuja, one of Mallorca’s oldest places of interest. From the hotel’s restaurant, you have a direct view of the imposing church with its emerald-green spire, surrounded by high mountain peaks, olive groves and Valldemossa’s idyllic stone houses. In the other direction, the panoramic view unfolds all the way to Palma and far out to sea. Impressions that capture the soul of this Balearic island.
The Natural Sanctuary
In transforming the time-honoured walls into a luxurious retreat, Miguel Conde and Cristina Marti have achieved a sensational metamorphosis. The result impressively demonstrates the intuitive flair and high standards of the two owners – above all, Cristina’s creative expertise as an architect, which has given the boutique hotel a whole new splendour while preserving its soul and cultural heritage. In addition to authenticity, allowing you to immerse yourself in the Mallorcan history and lifestyle, there is a high degree of privacy: we are looked after by trusted employees, almost as if we are family members. With a total of 12 residences – 4 deluxe rooms, 6 junior suites and the exclusive Valldemossa Suite with jacuzzi and private hammam in the bathroom – the number of guests at the boutique hotel remains pleasantly manageable. The exciting blend of art, design and history is continued throughout the hotel: historic wooden beams, muntin windows and natural stone floors create a charming retro ambience, while luxurious bathrooms, stylish interiors, hand-picked accessories and fine fabrics reveal a modern zeitgeist. Unique pieces by local artists set exciting accents everywhere – some of them specially made for that particular room. Our suite is pleasantly spacious with a separate living area and its own terrace; we enjoy the dreamlike atmosphere, breathe in the warmth of the sun and the scent of orange blossom.
Local Art and Heritage
Morning awakens. The tempting aroma of coffee and homemade bread fresh from the oven wafts through the air. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired and offers all kinds of temptations, including local specialities such as coca de patata, a sugar-dusted bread roll with potato. After a hearty meal on the sunny terrace, where it stays pleasantly cool in midsummer thanks to the altitude, we have a choice: stroll through the alleyways of Valldemossa and the museum in the monastery where Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838? A trip to the picturesque neighbouring village of Deià or an exciting shopping trip to fashionable Palma? There are many options and you can reach your desired destinations quickly by bus or in a hire car. Returning to the hotel, it’s time to enjoy the elysian tranquillity and watch the sun go down – ideally with one of the stylish, finely mixed signature drinks.
The perfect harmonisation of body, mind and soul – there are many ways to achieve this here: for example, with the seasonal fusion creations of the chefs in the De Tokio a Lima restaurant, where wonderfully fresh menus are conjured up. Japanese nuances meet Peruvian flavours and blend with Mediterranean produce – often from the restaurant’s own organic garden or from local farmers – to create truly exceptional delicacies. The beef tataki with asparagus and orange tartare is just as unforgettable as the heavenly creamy lemon tart for dessert. And although there are plenty of dining alternatives in the neighbourhood or by the sea, the creative variety at De Tokio a Lima means that there is always something new on the table – including excellent Mallorcan wines. Further sensory experiences await you in the sanctuary: massages with fragrant essential oils, the sound of singing bowls or detox and medical wellness therapies. The focus is on health and longevity. What’s more, you can book the hotel’s own private spa exclusively once a day and have the indoor pool with sauna all to yourself – a dream! Those who want to be more active can keep fit on the state-of-the-art equipment in the open-air gym, hop on a bike or go on a hiking tour. Afterwards it’s time for some well-deserved relaxation on a lounger by the large outdoor pool, where you can enjoy maximum holiday flair surrounded by cypresses and ancient olive trees. Mallorca’s place to be? For us, it’s right here.
