The installations of international art collective teamLab are pure magic, created through the conscious interplay of art, science, technology and the natural world. The artworks of this interdisciplinary group of specialists have been gaining attention worldwide for many years, appearing both in their own permanent exhibition spaces and in the museums of several international cities. Soon the teamLab art experience will find a permanent venue in Hamburg too.

Engulfed. In endless, cascading, crystalline rain. In a billowing sea of lights. In wonder worlds of oceans, primordial forests or cosmic realms. A voyage of discovery for all the senses. The surroundings change with the observer’s own movements – every step opens up a new scene of breathtaking illusion; each created by the vision of the teamLab creators: everything exists in a meandering, fragile yet wondrous, borderless continuity. The concept of emerging, fading and changing becomes tangible, particularly at one location: in the EN TEA HOUSE, Japanese tea culture joins with art to turn an everyday event into an artwork, which you create yourself in real time.

The interdisciplinary group of specialists – including artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects – seeks to investigate through art the relationship between one’s self, the world and new forms of perception.'

Delicate wisps of steam rise from the glass tea bowl and disappear into the mystical darkness of the room. Suddenly, a flower in the tea starts to blossom, slowly at first but then with such a richness of buds and leaves, it seems that a tiny living garden is awakening. Every movement initiates a change: if the glass is put down, the flower tendrils expand in sumptuous, sprouting colours; if the glass is lifted, they break away from the edge and disappear, as if swirled away by invisible winds, into the infinity of the night. When the tea disappears, the artwork disappears too, revealing a fleeting moment of beauty and its ephemeral nature. Only the memory remains. The vision of the creators to surpass the borders between one’s self, the world and the continuum of time is breathtakingly achieved. Borderless is therefore the perfect description for this art.
